Applicants are nominated by their home university and managed within a partner-framework agreement. Before applying contact the International Office ( exchangestud uni-trier de ), which offers information about the application process via the Admissions Office, room availability and participation in German language Course.

At Trier University, you can expand your studies according to your wishes with a German perspective on your field of study and beyond. The Orientation Programme for international students makes it easier for you to settle into student life in Trier.

If you are a student participating in an exchange programme (e.g. ERASMUS, ISEP, partner universities) and have been nominated by your home university to study at Trier University, you will find information here on your application and admission to Trier University.

In order to receive admission as a Double Degree Seeking student, adhere to the common deadlines , by placing your application in the Online portal PORTA (first register, then place an application)

If you start your studies at Trier University in the winter semester , your application procedure starts in April of the same year. The application deadline is 1 June .

Application documents if you are applying for the first study semester:

According to the division into winter and summer semesters, there are two application periods during which the application forms are online and the application must be submitted.

Only after receiving our email with detaileld information on the application process: Complete the application documents on the online application portal 🡒 www.exchange-application.uni-trier.de (URL-UT) from the above-mentioned application start date.

The transcript of records (ToR) will be issued at the end of your stay. One transcript will be issued per department (if you choose courses from several departments, you will receive several transcripts). The transcript is not issued automatically: you will only receive it if you apply for it!!! Towards the end of your stay, you will receive an application form with instructions from the International Office. You should submit the application by the end of the lecture period. The transcripts are sent digitally (to your home university and the students or to the exchange organization).

Gather additional information on the courses offered by the subjects on the websites of the subjects for exchange students (there you will usually find course lists from the current semesters and information on credit allocation). These and the contact persons in the subjects, who you can also contact with specific questions about course selection, can be found here.

Language Courses: Would you also like to learn German or other languages at Trier University? Then take a look at the courses offered by the Language Centre. The Language Centre is part of the University and the courses are free of charge for all Trier University students. German Courses: Each semester, intensive courses as well as additional module courses are offered at various proficiency levels (typically A and B levels). If you have any questions about German courses, please contact: Ms. Zita van Wylick (ECTS Coordinator for German Courses). Registration for the courses and the placement test generally take place during the week before the start of the lecture period or the orientation program. After arrival at Trier University, you will receive your Trier student ID card, the "Tunika". You will receive authorization to use the computers at the University, including instructions on how to access the Wi-Fi on campus, your own email address and the course catalogue (PORTA) well before arrival.

Im Gegensatz zu den Studentenwohnheimen der Universität Trier und einigen privat betriebenen Studentenwohnheimen sind die meisten Zimmer/Wohnungen auf dem privaten Wohnungsmarkt unmöbliert. Bei einigen Wohnungsangeboten ist auch keine Küche inklusive. Es ist ratsam, dies vor dem Einzug genau zu klären.

Sowohl private Wohnungen als auch Wohnheimzimmer haben in Deutschland immer eine Kündigungsfrist. Diese wird in der Regel im Vertrag festgelegt und beträgt etwa drei Monate. Ein vorzeitiger Auszug ist nicht möglich, daher sollten Sie sich an die Fristen halten.

If you would like the International Office to arrange accommodation for you, please send us the "Application for Accommodation" in writing. You can find this form in the online application portal.

Students from the United Kingdom (UK) are advised to apply for a visa for their stay in Trier before arrival. It is possible to apply for a residence permit instead of a visa after arrival, but this can be more difficult than applying for a visa in advance due to changing guidelines.

Please note that in advance of your studies at Trier University, the financing for your complete stay in Germany must be clarified and secured. You will need at least 992 euros per month to finance your life in Trier. Most of the costs will be for rent, health insurance and your meals. In your first month, you will also have other costs. Usually you will have to pay a deposit for your flat. You will also have to pay the semester fee, which is currently around 380 euros. In order to apply for a visa, you will need to provide ⭷ proof of financial resources . In other words, you must prove that you can finance your studies in Trier.

Rent on the private housing market does not include utilities such as water, electricity or gas, and additional estate agent fees may apply when searching on the private housing market.

Enrollment (registration) takes place after successful admission. You will receive all important information by email about 6 weeks before the start of your stay. Enrollment also includes 🡒 payment of the semester fee and proof of sufficient health insurance. The semester fee must be paid in full by all students and is not a tuition fee! After successful enrollment, you will receive the data from us to log into the university's systems. Only then can you also register for courses.

ⓘ *The semester fee is not a tuition fee! They are a contribution towards Trier Stu dent Services and the student union ("AStA") and also cover the cost of your pub lic transport ticket for the semester (free public transport in all of Germany.

In General: all students in Germany are obligated to have health insurance. You cannot be enrolled at Trier University without sufficient health insurance.

Exception : Students age 30 and over are not required to have health insurance coverage, but it is highly recommended to sign up for a health insurance!

Erstmals können die Studierenden dabei im Bachelor, Master und Doktorat jeweils bis zu 12 Monate gefördert werden. Um den finanziellen Anreiz für einen Auslandsaufenthalt zu erhöhen, wird zudem der monatliche Mobilitätszuschuss für die Studierenden angehoben, insbesondere für Gastländer mit höheren Lebenshaltungskosten. Praktika im Ausland sind künftig auch nach Studienabschluss möglich. Schließlich bietet Erasmus+ Studierenden, die ein ganzes Master-Studium in Europa absolvieren möchten, die Möglichkeit, dafür ein zinsgünstiges Darlehen aufzunehmen. Die bisherige Exzellenz-Förderung von Erasmus Mundus, die das ganze Master-Studium von hervorragenden Studierenden in ausgewählten europäischen Masterprogrammen mit gemeinsamem Abschluss unterstützt, wird unter Erasmus+ fortgesetzt.

The financial support for Erasmus+ mobilities for the purpose of teaching or training depends on the varying living costs in each destination country (“programme countries”). Consistent daily rates apply for funding by German universities.

Adresse: Pluwiger Straße 2-4, 6, 12, 14, 16, 54296 Trier Einzelappartements mit Kochnische, Dusche und WC. Die Appartements befinden sich in der Nähe der Universität (ca. 20 Minuten zu Fuß), gute Busverbindung zur Universität und zum Stadtzentrum.

Adresse: Augustinusstraße 15, 54296 Trier Einzelzimmer, wenige Doppelzimmer mit Bad, Küche und Internet (unmöbliert). Das Wohnheim liegt in der Nähe der Universität (10 Minuten zu Fuß, 3-5 Minuten mit dem Bus). Gute Busverbindungen zur Universität und ins Stadtzentrum: Die Buslinien 3/13, 83 und 6/16, 81 verkehren regelmäßig und sind in wenigen Minuten zu erreichen.
