Chico State is one of the only residential campuses within the California State University (CSU) system. This means most of our students live on, or within walking or biking distance (2km), of campus. Chico’s cost of living is great too—housing rentals are on average 50% less than those in the San Francisco and Los Angeles regions of California.

Renter's Insurance Some housing providers may require renter's insurance and some may not. It is always recommended to have proper coverage in case the unexpected happens. Homeowner's Policy - Side Coverage - Some students may be covered under their parent's homeowners policy, however it is important not to just assume. If a parent wishes a student's rental to be covered it is important they contact their insurance agent. Car Insurance Policy - Bundles - Some insurance companies allow you to bundle services for a discount! If you already have coverage for a car, you can contact your agent and get quotes on adding a renter's policy to your account. Many times bundling services results in annual savings for a multiple policy account. Renter's Insurance Policy - Single: If the first two options aren't the right fit for you, there are many insurance companies that offer renter policies. A good place to start learning is to check out this article all about Renter's insurance from The Zebra and also this Forbes article about the importance of renter's insurance .

About West Campus Nord Avenue and its extension as Walnut Street form a natural "west campus" boundary for several neighborhoods west of the Union Pacific railroad tracks that have long been popular with college-aged renters. Rental prices are generally closer to north campus rates, and many businesses and services are located along Nord Avenue. Nord Avenue becomes Walnut Street, and vice versa, at West Sacramento Avenue.

The B-Line Bus, our local public bus system, provides free bus service to and from campus every 30 minutes on academic days.
